ABOUT ME

Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Peyton Sammons, a freshly minted Master of Publishing who spent grad school learning how stories get made, broken apart, polished, and occasionally rescued from existential crisis. Right now I’m on the job hunt, which mostly involves a lot of writing, a lot of rereading my own writing, and the quiet belief that one of these pieces of work will show my dedication and drive, eventually becoming someone’s favorite thing.

I like words that do a little more than sit nicely on a page. They should have a personality, maybe twitch, sparkle, occasionally misbehave. This space is where I keep the pieces I’ve written along the way: some polished, some experimental, all very much proof that I can’t stop trying to turn ideas into something worth reading. These numerous pages will also show that I can’t stop editing or looking at certain literary works without an eye for improvement. I hope you enjoy my portfolio!

I’ll share some fun facts so we aren’t sweating, freaking out, getting to know each other:

  • I have a Master of Arts in Publishing, which means I have spent an uncanny amount of time professionally overthinking oxford commas.
  • Top five favorite books: Beartown (Fredrik Backman), The Nightingale (Kristin Hannah), The Handmaid’s Tale (Margaret Atwood), In the Dream House (Carmen Maria Machado), Compound Fracture (Andrew Joseph White).
  • I judge books by their first paragraph and feel bad about it later.
  • I am a die hard Patrick Swayze fan.
  • I can talk about audience, tone, and structure like they’re separate characters in a story (because they kind of are).
